Border 2 Day 1 at Box Office: Just when the box office was getting a little too comfortable, Sunny Deol has stormed back with ‘Border 2’, and the numbers are already talking. After weeks of calm domination by ‘Dhurandhar’, Bollywood finally has a new battlefield.

Released worldwide this Friday, ‘Border 2’ stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, and it has arrived with massive expectations riding on its shoulders. And why not? The first ‘Border’ is still remembered as one of Indian cinema’s most iconic war films.

Advance bookings set the tone early

Even before its first show rolled out, ‘Border 2’ made its presence felt. According to Sacnilk, the film recorded a strong advance booking performance, locking an All-India gross of ₹12.5 crore for day one. Over 4,09,117 tickets were sold across 16,221 shows nationwide.

Big release, bigger strategy

One of the smartest moves behind ‘Border 2’ is its timing. The film has hit theatres just ahead of the Republic Day long weekend, giving it four-day holiday window to cash in on family crowds and patriotic vibes.

Trade experts are already calling this a strategic masterstroke. With no other major releases clashing and a wide release across 4,500 screens worldwide, ‘Border 2’ has the perfect runway to fly high.

Opening day numbers keep rising

By afternoon shows on Friday, ‘Border 2’ had already collected ₹7.24 crore. By 3 PM, the film earned ₹8.43 crore net in India, according to Sacnilk. Morning shows registered nearly 20% occupancy which steadily climbed as the day progressed.

The film performed especially well in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, where mass centres responded strongly. In places like Chandigarh, morning show occupancy touched 42%, showing clear excitement among the core audience.

Dhurandhar finally feels the heat

For the last one and a half months, Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’ had been ruling the box office almost uncontested. The film has now crossed a staggering ₹830 crore in total earnings.

However, with ‘Border 2’ taking over screens across the country and globally, ‘Dhurandhar’ finally saw a sharp dip. On day 50, the film managed only ₹1 lakh in morning collections.

Interestingly, ‘Border 2’ pre-sales have already beaten what ‘Dhurandhar’ managed at the same stage.

Eyeing massive opening records

Early projections suggest that ‘Border 2’ could finish its opening day close to ₹35 crore. Over the extended Republic Day weekend, the total collection is expected to comfortably cross ₹125 crore.

If these numbers hold, the film is set to beat the opening day figures of several recent blockbusters. It is expected to surpass ‘Dhurandhar’ (₹29 crore) and ‘Chhaava’ (₹32 crore) on day one itself.

There’s more. ‘Border 2’ could even challenge Sunny Deol’s personal best opening of ₹40.10 crore achieved by ‘Gadar 2’ in 2023.
